PREFIOUSLY AT TOUR DE FRANCE 2025
The individual time trial on the 5th stage serves as a natural divider between the stories before and after that day. Let's see, what happened since Wednesday:
Stage 6 (Bayeux → Vire Normandie) delivered the first big surprise of the race as Ben Healy launched a bold solo attack with over 40 km to go, conquering the hilly Normandy terrain for a career-defining win. His breakaway reshuffled the top contenders, allowing Mathieu van der Poel to snatch back the yellow jersey by a razor-thin one-second margin over Tadej Pogacar.
The very next day, on Stage 7 (Saint-Malo → Mûr-de-Bretagne), Pogacar answered in style. On the steep final climb, he outsprinted Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel to take the stage win and reclaim the maillot jaune. Crashes behind—particularly among Australian hopefuls—added to the drama as the GC picture began to harden.
Finally, Stage 8 (Saint-Méen-le-Grand → Laval) offered a brief respite from the hills, but the heat turned it into a battle of endurance. Jonathan Milan powered through to take a commanding sprint victory, earning Italy its first Tour stage win since 2019 and solidifying his grip on the green jersey. Meanwhile, Pogacar played it safe and kept his overall lead intact.
